Google Drive synchronization process might get stuck in the middle of nowhere sometimes due to temporary glitches or problems associated with the contents of Google Drive. Here are selected tips & tricks to get rid of common problems associated with the sync process.
Exit & Re-open the Browser
Something unexpected yet funny has happened with your browser. It may be a temporary glitch. The solution could be as simple as restarting your browser. Go give it a try.
Verify Folder Permissions
Grant read/ write access permissions to the Temp folder where Google Drive temporary files are stored. Customize it’s security settings to do the needful.
- Double click This PC Desktop icon.
- Navigate to the following location:
- C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\
- Right click the Temp folder, choose Properties from the context menu.
- Click the Security tab, and then click Edit.
- Select the Allow checkbox ahead of the Full control caption.
- Click OK | OK.
Reboot PC
Restart your computer if the error message still appears. This will do away with any minor errors that might have appeared out of nowhere and started to act up.
Reinstall Google Drive
It could also be that some of the program files (associated with Google Drive) are corrupted, moved, renamed or simply deleted. Uninstall and reinstall the program to fix Google Drive sync error.
- Press Windows Key + X; choose Search.
- Type Settings in the Search box and open it from the Search Results.
- Click the System icon on the Settings page.
- Click the Apps & Features tab.
- Scroll down the list on the right until you locate Google Drive. Click it and then click Uninstall.
- Follow the uninstaller wizard; restart your system.
- Download Google Drive from the official product landing page:
- After successful download, execute the setup and install it.
Kill & Restart the Process
Terminate Google Drive Synchronization process and restart it again using Task Manager.
- Press Windows Key + X; choose Task Manager.
- Click the More details icon on bottom left.
- Click the Details tab.
- Scroll down and locate the googledrivesync.exe process. Once you’ve found it, end it using the End Task button.
Re-register python27.dll File
Python27.dll file is an essential component of Google Drive desktop application. Each Dynamic Link Library file is registered in System Registry when the respective program is being installed. At times, the file entries get corrupted. Unregister and reregister Python27.dll file entries in Registry to repair any damage.
- Type Command Prompt in the Search Box.
- Now right click it from the Search Results.
- Select Run as administrator option from the context menu.
- Execute these commands individually:
- regsvr32 /u python27.dll
- regsvr32 python27.dll
- exit
- Restart the system to complete the process.
Resume Paused Sync Process
Sync process might have been stopped mysteriously without any cogent reason. You can improve sync-process by cleaning Google drive from excessive junk. Follow these steps to resume it again:
- Click the More icon, an upward arrow on the Notification Area of your Taskbar. (Extreme right-hand corner)
- Click the Google Drive program icon, and then the Overflow icon (three vertical dots on upper right).
- In the menu bar that appears, click on Resume.
Resync Unsyncable Files
View the list of unsyncable files, and try syncing them again.
- Click the Google Drive icon on your web browser’s toolbar.
- Select the View # unsyncable files option, and then click on Retry all.
Sync Individual Folders
There might be some gigantic files or files with unsupported file formats in your Google Drive. They can’t be synced due to technical glitches. Choose custom folders and you won’t get the error again.
- Click the Google Drive icon on system tray.
- Click Overflow icon, and choose Preferences.
- Choose the Sync Options tab from the new dialog that opens on your screen.
- Select the second option labelled Only these folders.
- View the list of unsyncable files as described in Resync Unsyncable Files section. Do not select folders containing any of these files. Select the remaining folders; and then click Apply.
