How to Cleanup iTunes Folder

Have you got the same music files in your iTunes Library? This tutorial provides interesting ways to clean-up space-hogging files littering your hard drive. Just follow these simple steps to reduce clutter, multiple copies of the same duplicate files.

Using iTunes

iTunes comes with a feature to show duplicate files in your Library. If you still haven’t added files to the Library, you have to add them and use this feature.

1. Open iTunes by using a Desktop shortcut.

2. Click Menu on extreme top left corner.

3. Is your Library empty? Select Add Files to Library and add multiple files from different partitions of your hard drive.

• Use Shift Key + Click to select music files in consecutive manner
• Use Ctrl Key + Click to select files in non-consecutive manner

4. Press Alt key to display Menu bar.

5. Click View

6. Select Show Duplicate Items.

7. Remove all duplicates displayed on that page.

Using Clone Files Checker

With Clone Files Checker, you get all those handy features to spot and delete duplicate files from your PC. This process is simple. There is no risk of losing important files since you get a chance to review and fix all your files. This does not delete your files without your prior permission: You need to select “Review & Fix” option to do that. “Auto-Fix” option is also available which automatically deletes your files.

You have three options: (1) Send your files to Recycle Bin, (2) move them to another folder or (3) delete them permanently. It does create a backup as well if you want to recover your lost files.

Using File Explorer

With File Explorer, navigate to the iTunes folder in Music library. Here you’ll get tons of duplicate files stored by your iTunes application.

1. Click File Explorer icon on your Taskbar.

2. Libraries Folder Root will open.

3. Open Music\iTunes

4. Right click on an empty area of your screen, and select Sort by | Name.

5. Right click again, and select Sort by | Ascending.

6. All folder contents will be sorted in an ascending order. Delete all duplicates found, if any.

Using Windows Search

Now it’s time to check all sorts of duplicate music files in your whole hard drive. You may use Windows Search feature.

1. Double click Computer icon on Desktop.

2. Open your drive C:\

3. Press F3 to start your Search

4. Type the following file extensions one-by-one and get separate results:

• .mp3
• .ogg
• .wma
• .mid
• .midi
• .aac
• .wav
• .8svx
• .16svx
• .aif
• .aifc
• .aiff
• .amr
• .mp2
• .spx
• .gsm
• .m4a
• .mpc
• .ra
• .rm
• .swa

4. Sort out the files by name and in an ascending order. Delete all duplicates you find.
