How to Speed Up OneDrive?

The technology is being improved over time and as a result of that many companies are moving towards the cloud for data management. One of few leading cloud platforms is OneDrive which natively comes with Windows 8 and above, and is developed by Microsoft especially for their Windows platform. This article points out a few methods to improve the speed of OneDrive to make it more productive.

Solution 1: Get a Fast Internet Connection

Since OneDrive is a cloud platform, it’s important to have a fast internet connection to transfer files from the server to the device connected with it, and vice versa. Use the following guide to find out the speed of the Internet package. If it’s below 512kbps, consider upgrading to a higher package for a better result.

1. Open “Internet Explorer” from Windows start bar

2. Visit the following website.

3. Make sure Java runtime player is installed in the system, otherwise use the following link to download it.

https://www.java.com/en/

4. Once the above steps are completed, click on the “begin test” to initiate the speed test.

5. The default unit of the test results is in mbps, and if it says anything below 0.5mbps, consider to upgrade your internet connection. Also pay attention to the ping value too; as higher the ping value, longer it takes to transfer files between the server and the client.

Solution 2: Directly Connect to the Internet.

Having a fast internet connection doesn’t always work. If the data is rerouted through a slower proxy, you may experience Onedrive lags. So make sure the Windows device is directly connected to the Internet, instead of through a proxy server.

1. Search for “Change proxy settings” in the windows start bar, then click to open its window.

2. Move the cursor slightly down of the window, find the “manual proxy setup” and turn it off.

Solution 3: Use A Fast Hard Drive

Before files are uploaded to the cloud they reside in a hard drive of the local system, and then they are copied to the cloud. If the hard drive has a slow IO (input/out) speed, it takes a significant amount of time to transfer the file to the cloud.
