OneDrive, a cloud storage platform from technology giant Microsoft, recently unveiled a new feature that lets users pause
synchronisation when required. Sync is the process of updating files on both ends so that any changes made on one end can be reflected at the other end.
How is this Feature Beneficial to me?
Does this feature really matter to you? Yes, it does! This feature was a long standing demand from users for years, is beneficial to you in the following ways:
Pause Sync while Switching from a High Speed Wi-Fi to a Slower Connection
Internet connection speed varies by locations and circumstances. It depends on several factors, such as subscription plan, weather condition, router configurations and physical barriers. Pause the Microsoft OneDrive synchronisation process while establishing connection through a high end Internet connection.
Saves Data on Metered Connection
Metered Connection is a connection for which your Internet Service Provider imposes a restricted data usage policy. The data which you consume (including both downloads and uploads) is limited in nature. The ISP charges additional amount if user exceeds the data limit, or the Internet speed decreases until the billing cycle ends.
Unlike at home where we have unlimited access, mostly people tend to use a cheap metered connection while they’re travelling or busy with other outdoor activities.
Microsoft OneDrive lets you an option to pause file synchronisation process while you are connected through a metered connection. Once you’re switched to an unlimited Wi-Fi, do resume the process.
Pause Sync During Streaming Activities
Bandwidth is the measure of data transmission over the Internet. Imagine streaming your favourite TV show or Hollywood movie on Netflix, only to be interrupted time and again courtesy a hefty amount of bandwidth being eaten up by the sync process!
Pausing synchronisation enables your computer to attach higher priority for streaming media, which in turn, improves your streaming experience by leaps and bounds.
Pause Sync During Resource Intensive Tasks
During resource consuming events such as downloads and installation of updates, you might want to pause the file sync.
Pause Sync During Gameplay
Head over to the Google Drive app and temporarily pause it to get blazing fast gaming performance. If you’re getting low Frames Per Second (FPS) during gameplay, pausing OneDrive sync can boost the FPS and as a consequence, the game will run smoothly.
