How to Increase Internal Memory?

In this article we’ll assist you making sure you get most out of your computing experience by increasing internal memory – RAM and Hard Drive.

View System Resource Usage

Task Manager shows you system resource usage so that you can control which processes to run or terminate.

For Windows 8.1/ 8:

1. Press Windows Key + X, select Search.

2. Type “Resource” in Search Box.

3. Click Settings icon.

4. Open the result named “View system resource usage in Task Manager”

5. Control the applications that appear on your screen. End unnecessary applications.

6. Click “More details” icon.

7. Click “Details” tab and end unnecessary processes.

For Windows 7/ Vista:

1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys simultaneously.

2. Click “Task Manager” or “Open Task Manager”.

3. Click Processes tab.

Use Resource Monitor

With Resource Monitor you can get in-depth information about running processes.

For Windows 8.1/ 8:

1. Press Windows Key + X, select Control Panel.

2. Click System and Security | Administrative Tools.

3. Double click “Resource Monitor”.

4. Now you get detailed information such as CPU usage, running processes with % CPU usage, % maximum frequency, disk I/O speed in terms of say, KB/sec, processes using network connection with speed in kbps, % network utilization, and so on.

5. Exit out of the screen.

For Windows 7/ Vista:

1. Click Start | Control Panel.

2. Refer Steps # 2-5 under Windows 8.1/ 8 user’s section.

Use Windows Experience Index

This program rates your computer after conducting several hardware assessments. You would come to know if you have adequate RAM and hard drive. In case of poor ratings, you can buy required hardware to improve speed & performance.

For Windows 8.1/ 8:

1. Right click Computer icon; select Properties.

2. Click “Windows Experience Index” ahead of “Ratings”.

3. If you’re conducting assessment for the first time, click “Rate this computer”. If it was previously conducted during Windows installation, click “Re-run the assessment”. This may take several minutes.

For Windows 7:

1. Click Start | Control Panel.

2. Type “Performance information and tools” in Search Box.

3. Open “Performance Information and Tools” keyword from Search Results.

4. Click “Rate this computer” button or “Re-run the assessment” button, whichever exists, as the case may be.

For Windows Vista:

1. Click Start | Control Panel.

2. Click System and Maintenance | Performance Information and Tools.

3. Click “Update my score” button or “Score this computer” button, whichever exists, as the case may be.

Increase Virtual Memory

The terms Virtual Memory and Paging File are used synonymously. Windows sets default paging file size for your computer which can be later changed according to one’s need.

For Windows 8.1/ 8/ 7/ Vista:

1. Right click Computer; select Properties.

2. Click “Advanced system settings” link.

3. Click Advanced tab | Settings (Performance) | Advanced tab | Change (Virtual Memory).

4. In the subsequent dialog that appears, uncheck box labelled “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives”.

5. Select your system drive, select “Custom size” and specify a higher value than the pre-determined virtual memory.

6. Click Set button to apply.

7. Click OK | OK | OK and then restart your PC.

Free Up Space

Accumulate details about the disk space wasted by temporary files. Free up space using Disk CleanUp.

For Windows 8.1/ 8/ 7/ Vista:

1. Double click Computer icon.

2. Right click the drive you would like to clean, select Properties.

3. Click Tools tab, and then Disk CleanUp button. Start deleting temporary files.

Use ReadyBoost

Are you wondering if there any way if you do not wish to buy additional RAM? Interestingly, Microsoft ReadyBoost technology uses your USB Flash Drive just as like an additional RAM. Meaning, you’ve to specify how much area of your USB Flash Drive as a replacement to your RAM.

For Windows 8.1/ 8/ 7/ Vista:

1. Connect your USB Flash Drive to the PC/ laptop.

2. Double click Computer icon.

3. Right click USB Flash Drive icon, select Properties.

4. Click ReadyBoost tab in the new dialog that opens.

5. Specify the size and then click Apply | OK.

Cleanup Duplicates

Another way to free up space in your C drive is to run a scan for duplicate files. You can try using the Clone Files Checker to find dupes overloading your computer.
