How to Label Your Photos Quickly and Delete Unevenly Labeled Duplicate Photos

Metadata serves as an additional piece of information about a file, much more than what an ordinary user thinks it to be. Metadata includes several bits of handy info such as title, camera model, copyright disclaimer, creation date, modification date, resolution and other technical information relating to the encoding of a photo.

Metadata contains information about the user who created the particular photo, modified it, the application used, the camera that was used to capture pictures, it is sometimes regarded as Digital Fingerprint. It is due to this reason that metadata often plays a significant role in the Court’s litigation.

Types of Metadata

There are several types of metadata. Some of them are listed below:

  1. Descriptive Metadata: This information provides identification of the subject discussed within the document, in addition to the title and any keywords that might be useful to get relevant search results in Windows Search.
  2. Technical Metadata: Although largely ignored, metadata provides plenty of comprehensive technical information about the device, operating system used, date of creation/ modification, the camera used and the encoding format used.
  3. Legal Metadata: This may include copyright information such as the copyright holder, intellectual property rights and trademarks.

Label Your Digital Photographs by Adding Relevant Metadata

If you are determined to view, modify and strip out metadata associated with photos stored on your computer, you can easily use the Properties dialog in Windows.

However, there is some specific information in each file that you can only view but not modify. This may include Image ID, Height, Width, Dimensions, Image Resolution, Bit depth, Compression and so on.

Using the Properties Dialog

If you want to edit the metadata of the photo via its Properties, here is what you need to do.

  1. Navigate to the directory that contains the target photo (for which you want to edit metadata).
  2. Right-click the file and select Properties.
  3. Now click the Details tab.
  4. To edit any value, double-click it and you will see the text highlighted and turned into an editable shape. Type in the new information and click on an area outside that field to deselect that text.
  5. If you can’t edit some info despite double-clicking it, this means that particular info can’t be edited, as described above.
  6. Similarly, fields such as Date taken, Date acquired, Metering mode and a few others can be changed by using the drop-down controls easily.
  7. Once you’re done, click Apply and then OK to save the changes.

Strip out Unevenly Labeled Metadata From Your Photos

If you want to erase specific/ entire metadata for a photo, here is how you can do so. This is an extremely simple, yet very handy step, and will be accomplished in File Explorer.

  1. Right-click the photo for which you want to erase metadata and select Properties.

Delete Duplicate Photos with One-Click

Clone Files Checker is an effective all-in-one duplicate cleaning solution provided by Sorcim Technologies.

One of the standout features of this software app is the ability to customize the scan to derive relevant scan results. For instance, you can apply File Size Filters to exclude large-sized files that may increase the scan time.

CFC takes into consideration the MD5 Algorithm to find files with the identical hash code. You may also make a list of folders that you do not want the program to include in the scan, by adding them in the Exclude from Scan tab.

You can even restore previously deleted duplicate files if you’ve turned on the Backup option. The program maintains a catalog of the entire scan history, including time taken to scan your files, the number of duplicates found, total disk space reclaimed, list of all duplicate files, and their parent directories. Select any particular scan in the History tab, and click the Restore button to recover all the deleted duplicates.

There is no compulsion to delete the duplicates. The user can happily choose between deleting the duplicates or moving them to a folder of their choice if they think the duplicates might prove handy at a later point of time.

CFC offers separate editions for both Windows and Mac users. The Windows edition also allows users to scan their Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive account(s) without having to sync the data to their computer. The user is simply required to entire the login credentials via the Cloud Scan tab. Once the data has been loaded, CFC will run a powerful scan and clean up the duplicates in no time.

The use of official APIs guarantees the optimum level of data security. This is done to assure the user at all times about their data being treated with the sanctity it deserves. The user even has the choice to revoke this access at any time by de-linking their cloud account.

  1. Download and install Clone Files Checker.
  2. Launch the program and click the Add button on the left and now select the folder that contains the photos that have to be scanned. Click OK to add the folder for the scan.
  3. You may also choose to add multiple folders if the photos are located in more than one directory.
  4. Select the Custom option and now select Images to cut down on the scan time.
  5. You can even opt to leave out photos that are below/ above a certain size or lie within a size range, through the File Size Settings. For instance, you can set the scan to eliminate all files larger than 100 MB and lower than 10 kB.
  6. Click on Start Search to launch the scan, and now wait for a while till the results are compiled.
  7. Once you get the scan results pop up, click the Fix Wizard button.
  8. Choose between Newest/ Oldest in the next window and your preferred action (Permanent Delete/ Move to a Folder).
  9. If you want to evaluate each file, use the Review & Fix option instead of Fix Wizard. The results will be classified into different rows and columns to display information about the duplicates, sizes, locations, and types.
  10. You can either individually select the files, or use the Select Duplicates button to automatically bulk select your files with pre-defined criteria.
  11. Finally, click on Select Action, and then choose the option of your choice.
