iTunes Cannot Run Because Some of its Files are Missing

As the error clearly indicates, some iTunes files or components are missing or not found. There are several ways to fix it.

Reinstall iTunes

Your iTunes installation may have been incomplete or other programs might have deleted one of the important iTunes files. The files not found error may be fixed by simply re-installing iTunes and other Apple products.

  1. Click on Start > Settings.
  2. Click on Apps > Apps & Features.
  3. Uninstall the following programs one by one: (It might be possible that some of the programs are not installed. If not found, just ignore).
    1. QuickTime
    2. iTunes
    3. Apple Software Update
    4. Apple Mobile Device Support
    5. iCloud
  4. Reboot your computer.
  5. Download iTunes setup and install it again.

Install an Earlier Version of iTunes

Did the issue occur after updating iTunes to the latest version? If the problem still persists after re-installing iTunes, you may want to try installing an earlier version of iTunes. You can download an older version of iTunes such as iTunes 9.2.1 (released in the year 2010) from its official website here.

Install Missing Library Files

iTunes requires Microsoft Visual C++ libraries to be installed in order to run and function correctly. If these libraries are not installed on your computer, you may get the iTunes Cannot Run Because Some Of Its Files Are Missing error.

Download the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package from the official Microsoft Download Center. Make sure to download the 64-bit or 32-bit version depending on your operating system type.

To determine whether you’re running a 64-bit or 32-bit system, do the following:

  1. Press Windows Key + R.
  2. Type in msinfo32.
  3. Click on OK.
  4. Check the value for System Type. If you’re running a 64-bit Windows, you should see x64-based PC.

Download iTunes from Microsoft Store

There’s an alternate version of iTunes available on the Microsoft Store. If you’re running Windows 10 or Windows 11, you may grab it.

  1. Click on the Microsoft Store app icon on the taskbar. If the icon is not there on the taskbar, click on the Search box and type Microsoft Store.
  2. Once the Microsoft Store opens, type iTunes in the Search box.
  3. Click on the Get button.

Install Windows Updates

Installing the latest Windows updates may also fix the issue.

  1. Click on Start > Settings.
  2. Click on the Windows Update tab.
  3. Windows will start checking for new updates. If any updates are found, click on the Download & Install button.

Change System Language to English

If you’ve set a non-English language as your computer’s display language, change it to English to see if that fixes your issue. Here’s how to change your system language:

  1. Click on Start > Settings.
  2. Click on the Time & Language tab.
  3. Click on Language & Region.
  4. Set the Windows Display Language to English (United States).
