Repeated and Duplicated Music on Memory Stick Fix

If you’re regularly storing your music files onto a memory stick, you might have faced the problem of duplication at some point of time. When your memory stick accumulates a lot of duplicates, it may become full. The same tracks may start repeating, the same songs might start appearing inside the albums. Overall, it can degrade your experience.

Clone Files Checker can help you remove all the duplicate music from your memory stick. It performs thorough scans to detect and delete every single duplicate music file.

Advantages of Memory Sticks

Portability

Memory sticks offer an incredible advantage. They are portable devices. Memory sticks make it easy to store and access your data from any device. You can carry them inside your pockets, or bags while traveling. They offer you easy accessibility to hundreds of thousands of files that you’ve stored. They can also be connected to other devices at your home, or office to share files instantly.

Recycling & re-use

Unlike CD-ROMs, you can delete data from memory sticks when you don’t need it. This way, you can get rid of obsolete data and reclaim your storage to store new files.

Bootable mediums

You can also make memory sticks bootable. They will boot up your operating system (such as a live version of your favorite Linux distro) or an installer for your operating system (such as Microsoft Windows). They can be a lifesaver if your computer doesn’t boot up and you’re unable to access your important data.

Durability

Another benefit of choosing memory sticks over external hard disks is their durability. Even if you accidentally drop them from a safe distance, they might still work (at least, in most cases) and your precious data may still be intact. But of course, we don’t recommend doing any such act just to test the memory stick’s durability!

Plug & play

You don’t need special driver software to use memory ticks (unless of course, your operating system version is too obsolete and unsupported by your memory stick manufacturer). Just plug them into your PC and they will be ready within a few seconds.

Rebranding

If you’re a business, you can have your brand logo and tagline printed on their surface and sell them alongside your product. For example, many home tutors deliver academic & educational content, including video tutoring materials, assignments, and PDFs, inside their own rebranded memory sticks with good designs.

How to Fix Repeated & Duplicated Music

The easy way to fix duplicate music is to employ special techniques to eliminate duplicate files. Fortunately, there are automated ways to identify & fix duplicates from memory sticks these days. However, you can also use some manual techniques, if you don’t wish to download software. We’ve got you covered as well.

Method 1: Manually Find & Delete Duplicate Music

Since there’s no duplicate-finding feature in Windows, we’ll rely on the file-sorting features of File Explorer to identify duplicate files.

For Windows 11

  1. Plug in the memory stick to your PC.
  2. Open File Explorer through its taskbar icon.
  3. Open up your memory stick partition.
  4. Click on the Sort icon > Name.
  5. Make sure the Ascending option is selected in the Sort menu.
  6. Your files will be sorted in ascending order. Look for duplicate music that may have additional suffixes in their names. For example, – Copy, – Copy(2), – Copy (3).

Note: We don’t recommend directly deleting your duplicate music. Move them to a separate folder to avoid potential data loss. You can delete them permanently once you’ve reviewed all the files individually.

For Windows 10/ 8.1/ 8

  1. Plug in your memory stick.
  2. Open File Explorer through its taskbar icon.
  3. Open the location of your memory stick.
  4. Click on the View tab in the Ribbon interface.
  5. Click on Sort by > Name.
  6. Select Name.
  7. Make sure the Ascending option is selected in the Sort by menu.
  8. You’ll find files with special suffixes such as – Copy, – Copy(2), – Copy(3) that may be duplicates of your original files.

For Windows 7

  1. Plug in your memory stick.
  2. Click on the File Explorer icon.
  3. Open the location of your memory stick.
  4. Right-click on an empty area, and select Sort by > Name.
  5. You’ll find files with different suffixes such as – Copy, – Copy(2), – Copy(3) that may be identical copies of your original music files.

Method 2: Automatically Fix all Duplicate Music Files

There’s a better, reliable way. With specialized software, you can get this job done quickly and effortlessly within minutes. Automatically scanning duplicate files will not only take less time & effort, but also guarantee accuracy.

If you’re manually deleting duplicate files using File Explorer, there’s a possibility of accidentally deleting original music files forever. You may prevent such unexpected data losses and safely clean duplicate junk using an algorithm-based duplicate finder software like Clone Files Checker.

Clone Files Checker is a duplicate finder for Windows and Mac. It lets you find duplicate files, documents, music, images, videos, and archives using powerful algorithms, typically within just a few minutes.

When the duplicate files scan is finished, Clone Files Checker shows the amount of storage that can be freed up and the total number of duplicate files that were found. There are two options- Fix Wizard (formerly, Quick Fix) and Review Fix.

Quick Fix initiates a beginner-friendly wizard that lets you choose which file versions to keep and what action to be taken (for example, delete the files permanently, or move them to a folder). You’ll also be given the option to create backups of your files prior to deleting them.

Another option, Review & Fix, provides you with a comprehensive list of all duplicate files found on your memory stick, so that you can manually mark the files you want to keep and unmark those you want to delete permanently/ move to folder. There are also automated file selection options available via the Select Duplicates button, which can be very handy and helpful to bulk select your files (obviously, who would want to manually select every single file one by one?). Thereafter, you can delete your marked duplicate files permanently, or move them to a separate folder on your disk, just like the above Fix Wizard option.

Steps

  1. Download Clone Files Checker.
  2. Install the software and then launch it.
  3. Click on File Search.
  4. Click on the Add button.
  5. Select the memory stick drive (for example, G:\).
  6. Select the Custom option.
  7. Select the Music checkbox.
  8. Click on Start Search to proceed.
  9. This may take some time depending on the size of your memory stick. Once the scan is finished, you’ll see scan results along with the Fix Wizard and Review & Fix options.
  10. Click on the Review & Fix button.
  11. Click on Select Duplicates.
  12. Choose a file selection criteria. For example, to keep all the newest copies of files, select the option: Oldest files in each group
  13. Click on Select Action > Delete.
