Power cycle your Modem

Power cycling involves first shutting down Windows, and then your Router. Wait for some time, restart the router, and turn it off after 3 minutes. Unplug and re-plug Ethernet cables of your router. Now switch on both laptop and router.

Overwrite RAS PPPoE Driver

Using an elevated CMD grant administrative privileges to parent directories, rename corrupted with the commands given below:

• TAKEOWN /F “C:\Windows\system32\drivers\raspppoe.sys”
• ICACLS “C:\Windows\system32\drivers\raspppoe.sys” /grant administrators:F

Using File Explorer, rename “raspppoe.sys” file as “raspppoe.sys.bak” This file is originally located under C:\Windows\System32\Drivers directory.

Download that same file from third party sources and store it in original location. Don’t forget to scan downloaded file using an Antivirus.

Reinstall Network Card Drivers

Use the Device Manager tool, expand top node and then uninstall-reinstall your Network Card Driver. This may require a system reboot as well. Go to System and Security > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.

Restore Default TCP/ IP Configurations

Using a built-in tool, Command Prompt, reset your TCP/ IP settings.

netsh int ip reset reset.log

Start Windows with a Limited Set of Startups

Boot your computer with limited set of startup items and services. Use the clean boot option in MSCONFIG > General tab, to customize the way your laptop starts.

Change Duplex Mode and Link Speed

In the Network and Internet page of the Network and Sharing Center, configure the advanced properties of your active LAN. Duplex should be set as 100 Mbps. Save settings after disabling the TCP/ IPv6 feature, and restart your laptop.

Create Copy of Existing Dial-Up Connection

Create a copy of the existing dial-up connection network by choosing that option from the right-click menu options. The icon is located in the adapter settings of the Network & Sharing Center.

Turn Off Unsupported Features

Auto Tuning has reportedly caused error 651 on Windows 10 laptops. Turn it off using below command:

• Netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled

Disable Internet Protocol Version 6

Using the Network Connection Properties dialog uncheck “IPv6” checkbox. You can locate the same using Network & Sharing Center under Network & Internet.

Disable Receiving Side Scaling & Offloading

Create a new String “EnableRSS” with “0” (zero; without quotes) as String Value in below sub key. A system restart is required for the changes to take effects. 0 represents disable while 1 represents enable.

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

In the same manner, change “DisableTaskOffLoad” to “1” (where, 1 disables and 0 enables, yet the sub key remains the same).

Disabling Dialing a Connection

In the Connections tab of the Internet Properties (formerly known as, Internet Options) dialog box, uncheck the check box named “Never dial a connection”. Use “inetcpl.cpl” command.

Perform Network Diagnostic

Initiate the Windows Troubleshooting wizard to troubleshoot your network adapter. Type “Troubleshooting” in Search Box of your Start Screen; and then click Network and Internet in the subsequent page. The next page comes with a range of options, click “Network Adapter” and then follow the on-screen instructions. Please wait till “Resolving problems…” progress indicator appears. It shall reset your LAN, router and other network adapter settings.
