Delete Duplicate Songs In Apple QuickTime

QuickTime Player for Mac is a popular media player, originally designed by Apple Inc for it’s operating system MacOS.

QuickTime for Mac is not just a music and movie player. It includes various utilities to record your voice, capture screen and share clips online.

You may trim your videos, cut, copy, paste, split and rotate video clips with the basic video editing features.

The initial release of QuickTime dates back to December 1991. In the year 2016, Apple discontinued support for QuickTime Player for Windows and decided not to release newer versions anymore.

Organize Your Music & Videos In One Place

QuickTime keeps track of all media files and organizes them under one roof. It builds a catalogue of all your audio/ video files, artists, and other relevant information without copying any files that may result into duplication and wastage of disk space.

Screencast, Record Narrations & Much More

Besides playing media files, QuickTime can also act as a Screen Recorder software. However, there are certain restrictions in terms of featured compared to other fully-fledged screen recording software.

QuickTime does not support recording your screen and webcam simultaneously. The screen record feature gives users two options- record the entire screen content or choose a specific part of your screen. All you have to do is drag your cursor over the part of the screen that you want to record. This makes QuickTime one of the beginner-friendly applications. Moreover, you can add narrations to your video using a good-quality microphone. While recording the contents of your screen, you may choose to display the mouse cursor with a circle to make it easy for the viewers to identify it.

Share Your Video In Just A Few Clicks

After you finished your screencast, be sure to manually save it. Otherwise, it will be automatically discarded after you close the program.

QuickTime makes it easy to share your videos with the world. With just a few clicks, you can upload your video on video sharing websites such as YouTube, Vimeo and cloud file sharing platforms such as Google Drive.

In short, QuickTime is not just an audio/ video media player but an all-inclusive tool that facilitates screencast without much hassle and difficulties.

Enjoy Uninterrupted Streaming

In the version 4, developers added streaming capability due to growing competition with Windows Media Player and RealPlayer.

While streaming your media files, the player automatically chooses the high quality Internet decompressor and streaming seeds for a better user experience.

It is also important to choose the correct Internet speed in the application settings as the player is configured to hold a buffer cache for fewer seconds depending on your actual Internet connection speed.

Duplication Of Your QuickTime Media Files

Since business data is stored on different mediums and devices, the act of retrieving and combining information from various sources results into duplication.

There are different types of duplicate data:

  • Two or more files that contain completely identical information;
  • Two or more files that contain identical data in addition to other unique information

For example: A share trading company has to keep unique record and log of each client’s transaction everyday. They may have two files namely Spreadsheet “A” and Spreadsheet “B” that contain unique log of transactions initiated by their client in January and February months. Another Excel file Spreadsheet “C” may contain the same duplicate record in addition to additional transactions initiated in March.

Just like businesses, the growing problem of duplication affects individuals and home users.

The size of your QuickTime music library may grow up as you use your MacBook. Duplicate media can eat up a precious space of your hard disk and slow down your MacBook. It is highly recommended that you clean-up duplicates on a regular basis.

QuickTime Player Has No Duplicate Finding Feature

The famous QuickTime Player for Mac does not have any algorithm to find duplicate media files, and you may find yourself into a situation searching for music files with too many irrelevant results.

Eliminating Duplicate Files In Your Music Library

Since the contents of media library keep on changing very frequently, it is nearly impossible to manually keep track of identical files. They are large in number and located across various drives, folders and sub-folders.

Although there is an option for Windows users using older version of QuickTime to find duplicates using Windows PowerShell utility, that is not the case with Mac users. There’s no in-house duplicate finding feature in Mac operating system.

The PowerShell utility in Windows has inherent limitations. This command-line based utility is difficult to use for average users, and incorrectly typing commands can result into accidental deletion or corruption of your important files.

There is a better way to deal with this issue.
