Delete Mac Music and AVI Duplicate Files Easily

AVI is a video file developed by Microsoft Corp. It is an abbreviation of Audio Video Interleave which is a multimedia file type that contains encoded data. The AVI format originated from RIFF (Resource Interchange File Format).

It is supported by a variety of popular multimedia players including VLC Media Player, Windows Media Player, DivX, Apple QuickTime, Kodi, AllPlayer, among others. If your media player doesn’t support the AVI file format, you can easily download an appropriate Codec online. There are plenty of freeware codecs available such as K-Lite Codecs Pack.

Eliminate Duplicate AVI & Music Files in Mac

People using the AVI file format often find themselves consuming much larger storage space compared to some other file formats. Compressing data encodes information with fewer bits as compared to the original file and eliminates statistical redundancy. However, the end result of file compression is the loss of original video quality.

Just like any other music file, duplicate AVI files can occupy a significant portion of space on your Solid State Drive (SSD). Thankfully, there is a way to find duplicates. Here’s how:

Use Clone Files Checker

Clone Files Checker is a duplicate finder tool designed for Mac and Windows. The primary use of this software is to find duplicate files on your Solid State Drive and improve its performance and productivity. This saves your time and improves the accuracy which may not be possible if you choose to scan your files individually.

CFC uses a technology called MD5 Hashing which assigns a unique identifier code for each document and file depending on their content. Files with the same hash are treated as duplicates while those with unique hashes are considered non-duplicates.

Clone Files Checker displays a preview of each file so that you don’t have to open it every time. You can extend the list box area to full screen to get better control and improve readability. You also have an option to export the files list to a comma-separated file.

  1. Visit the Clone Files Checker official website and download the Mac edition of the software.
  2. Double-click the DMG file and follow the installer instructions.
  3. Once you have launched the program, locate the Add button under the Include in Scan tab.
  4. You will be prompted to select a destination directory. Click on OK after you select it.
  5. Optionally, you can make a list of the folders that you want the scan engine to ignore. Simply use the Exclude from Scan tab and add the desired folders.
  6. To search for only duplicate music files, use the Custom option and select the Music checkbox. This will limit the scan to only music files, and decrease the scan time. Nevertheless, you always have an option to perform an all-comprehensive scan that includes all documents, music, images, videos, and archives via the All Files option.
  7. Another optional feature allows you to change the way your files are scanned. For example, you can set a maximum and minimum limit in terms of kB, MB, GB to search specific files. Again, this is an optional feature and you need not set it unless you require it.
  8. Click on the Start Search button and the CFC scan will be up and running in no time.
  9. Once the results have been tabulated, you will get a pop up on the screen providing a summary of the scan results. Click the Review and Fix button.
  10. Now you have to select the duplicate AVI files for further action. You can either do so by selecting the checkbox before each file (if the number of duplicates involved isn’t a big one), or you can use the more pro route by selecting criteria from the Select Duplicates menu. The options available are for retaining the newest, oldest, most modified, least modified file, as well as selecting files by their folder location.
  11. The final step involves clicking the Select Action button and then opting for either deleting the duplicate AVI files for good or moving them to a folder of your choice.

It’s as simple as that. Getting rid of duplicates can get any easier, simpler and safer than that!
