How to Identify the Highest Resolution Images in Your Computer?

Back in the old days, searching for a file was much testing, time consuming and resource intensive than it is nowadays. This led to the whole search process becoming quite a big ask in itself as well as leading to delays for the user.

With the advancement in technology and the subsequent incorporation of extremely sophisticated computing techniques and algorithms, searching has become a lot easier and faster than ever before.

Modern day computing techniques help users perform simple searches as well as complex jobs like searching for a file type (with the option of adding more  attributes like modified date) with great ease. Today, we will be looking at how to find the highest resolution images easily in Windows. This procedure doesn’t require you getting any third-party software as Windows itself contains an inbuilt tool that helps to simplify the entire process.

Solution

  1. Click the File Explorer/ Windows Explorer icon located in the taskbar.
  2. Now open up the Pictures folder. If you have saved the pictures in another folder, open that folder. Also, if you’ve saved up pictures in multiple folders, you will need to move them all to a single folder.
  3. Now locate the search bar at the top-right corner of the screen. The search bar will be used not only to search for pictures, but also filter out the pictures with advanced query syntax.

  4. Type in the following query syntax in the search bar to initiate the search. The kind parameter here depicts the type of the file, whereas width and height parameters depict the size of the pictures. The combination of these elements forms what we call the picture resolution. Since we’re looking for the highest resolution pictures today, we will use the > (higher than) symbol. The sizes mentioned here are in pixel units. One more thing to keep in mind is that Images, image, pictures, picture, photos etc all relevant keywords can also be used instead of the photo keyword. If an image/images contains a specific name, then use the name in the following code snippet as well.
    kind:photo width:>680 height:>390

    kind:photo width:>680 height:>390 <String Name>

  5. The result of the query syntax will appear in the main panel as seen in the following screenshot. Use the Ctrl + A keys combination if you want to select all the images and cut (Ctrl + X) or copy (Ctrl + C) them. The following example uses kind:photo width:>1900 height:>1270

  6. Go to the desired location and use Ctrl + V to paste the copied images. Moving the pictures is not required if the sole purpose is to identify the highest resolution images. However, if you think you might have to refer to them later on, back them up to a different location.
  7. You can easily change the pixel values for the width and/ or height parameters to make it into a different search query.
