Increase Windows 10 Frame Rate for Playing Games Lag-Free

Are your Windows 10 games playing very slow like a slideshow? Worry not, we’re here to offer a few quick fixes that will surely smooth them up and bring your Windows 10 gaming experience at

par with console gaming.

Reduce Screen Resolution

Decreasing your Screen Resolution can improve gaming performance and Frame Rate by compromising the in-game image quality.

  1. Type Screen Resolution in the Search Box on the Taskbar.
  2. Click Change the Screen Resolution under Search Results.
  3. This will open up the Settings window with Advanced Display Settings page.
  4. Select one of the following screen resolutions and click Apply.
  • 1920×1080
  • 1600×900

Update Graphics Driver

Obtain latest video driver updates from the manufacturer’s website. Make sure you select proper serial number or use a tool that retrieves it automatically, in case you forget it.

  1. Visit the Graphics Card manufacturer’s website and download relevant driver updates.
    AMD | Nvidia | Intel
  2. Type Device Manager in the Search Box on the Taskbar and open it.
  3. Expand the top node, and then expand Display Adapters.
  4. Right-click the video card and choose Update driver software.
  5. Click Browse my computer for driver software.
  6. Locate the recently downloaded driver file, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the driver installation.

Perform Overclocking

We don’t’ recommend overclocking to everyone. Overclocking isn’t something a non-tech savvy user should go for unless he acknowledges the risks involved. If something goes wrong, you might end up damaging or even burning (in extreme cases) your hardware components such as RAM, Graphics Card, Processor and other components of the system. The Graphics Card of your system must be compatible, if you wish to use overclocking feature which will bring the hardware components under a lot of stress. Read the manual that comes with your laptop/ computer. If no such option is found in your BIOS Settings, use a third party overclocking software although it’s not usually recommended.

Disable Special Effects

You are probably already aware about some game settings that lower the Frame Rate. It’s not quite uncommon nowadays.

  1. Go to the Options page > Audio/ Video.
  2. Disable the following features:
    Anisotropic filtering
    Dynamic shadows
    Bullet decals
    Ambient occlusion
    Bloom
  3. Lower the following qualities:
    Foliage quality
    Texture quality
    Game detail
  4. Go back to the Options page and then the main screen.
  5. Exit and re-open the game.

Note: The actual game options might differ.
