Make your Dropbox Less Bulky by Deleting the Duplicate Files

Not all files are worth keeping in your Dropbox. You need to delete some bulky dupes. And sometimes they are a problem on any system. The more prolific you are the worse this problem can be. Before you identify them, you may end up having multiple dupes of the same file everywhere on your Dropbox. Identification is important as it isn’t easy to grapple with duplicate files in Dropbox.

Scanning for duplicate files in Dropbox can be performed manually as well as by making good use of an automated solution. The former involves doing some hard work with the results fetched by the Search feature on Dropbox’s website. The latter involves a modern technique that not only promises accurate results, but it also takes lot lesser amount of time with minimum required from the user.

Cleanup Duplicates from Dropbox

Clone Files Checker follows Google Software Principles

Dropbox’s Search Facility Can Help:

A traditional way to get rid of all dupes is to search for all files with a given name using built-in search facilities in the Drop Box. Dropbox can help in getting rid of these files because you can see all your files with your flashing eyes. But, this just takes way too long if you’ve been collecting files for a year or two and carelessly managed the collection of dupes. Whew!

This is how Dropbox Works:

Keeping Dropbox away from creating duplicates of the same file isn’t simple. Follow these simple, but tediously boring, steps to delete all dupes from your Dropbox:

  1. Visit Dropbox.com
  2. Get yourself logged in.
  3. Navigate all the files you stored.
  4. Remember the last time when you uploaded a file on Dropbox? Don’t remember? No worries just search any file you uploaded. Gasp! Write down the file name in your search box and hit the search button. All files will be right in front of you!
  5. Now select one file. Right click on it. Here you’ll find a “Show in Folder” option. Click on it.
  6. Keep the location of that file in your mind. Repeat this step every time for the huge number of files you have in your Dropbox folder. Keep repeating.

This way you can delete all your files one-by-one. Boring, isn’t it? It’s a mind-numbing job and would take hundreds of hours to finish, literally! I bet you don’t have that much time, do you?

Beware the File Checker!

If the location of your file differs from its primary location then start worrying about it. You’ll have multiple copies of the same file in your Dropbox.

The Automated Solution:

  1. Download and install CFC.
  2. Launch Clone Files Checker and click the Cloud Scan tab.

  5. Once the data has been loaded into CFC, select all folders which you wish to scan for duplicates.

Selecting the folder(s) which must be scanned for duplicates
  6. You can choose to skip Step 2 and opt for the duplicate scan to be directed at all file types. Click Start Search and patiently wait for the scan to conclude.
  7. Once the scan results are out, click Select Duplicates at the bottom of the screen to choose which type of file you want to retain from every duplicate group.
  8. The last step involves clicking Select Action and choosing between sending the duplicates to the Deleted files area of Dropbox or moving them to a folder Clone Files Checker will create.

CFC Works, Really!

Clone Files Checker performs the task intelligently while keeping the process simple enough for the user to be able to perform it confidently. The results are laid out in an easy-to-comprehend manner as well. However, users must be patient with Dropbox cloud scans as Dropbox does process data slowly. But all in all, this is a very handy software program that delivers excellent results.
