MusicBee: Delete Duplicate Songs

Do you use MusicBee? Of course you do. It’s a great music player that allows you to play music the way you want. There are several custom features of it, including the ability to change skins and visualizations. And it saves you from downloading any other metadata editor for your music. You can also edit music data straight from MusicBee and keep your music library organized at all times.

Where Does MusicBee Store My Music?

MusicBee stores your music in the Music folder in Windows. But you can also change the default location:

    • Open the Settings dialog.
    • Click on the Library tab, followed by the Music Library.
  • Specify a new folder, and then hit OK.

Finding MusicBee Duplicate Songs

Method 1: Using MusicBee Duplicate Finder Feature

MusicBee has an in-house duplicate song detection feature. Here’s how you can find them without downloading an external duplicate finder:

    1. Open MusicBee.
    1. Click on the Library tab > Find Duplicates.
    1. MusicBee will take some time to scan your music collection and make a list of all duplicate songs.
    1. Select the songs you want to remove.
  1. Right-click on your selection, and choose the Delete selected files option.

Method 2: Sort the Songs by Title (Manually)

It’s also possible to identify and remove duplicate songs manually. All you need to do is reorder your songs by their title.

    1. Open your music library.
    1. Click on the Title column head to sort all songs by their title.
    1. As your songs are rearranged in alphabetical order, it would be easy for you to identify duplicates manually.
  1. Select the versions you don’t need. Right-click on the selection and choose the Delete selected files option.

Method 3: Using an SQL Query

MusicBee builds an SQL database of all songs on your computer and uses the same to play, manage and organize your music. You may directly query the MusicBee SQL database to find duplicate songs.

    1. In the MusicBee application, click on the Tools menu.
    1. Select Run SQL Query.
    1. In the Query window, type the following query and execute it.
      sql

      SELECT *

      FROM tracks

      GROUP BY track_title, track_artist

      HAVING COUNT(*) > 1

    1. MusicBee will list all duplicate songs.
  1. Select them. Right-click on it and choose the Delete selected files option.

Method 4: Using File Explorer (Manual)

    1. Double-click on the Users folder on your desktop.
    1. Go to the Music sub-folder.
    1. Click on the Name column head to sort your music files by their names.
  1. Identify and delete duplicate songs.

Method 5: Using a Duplicate Finder Software (Recommended)
