Product Spotlight: Fix Duplicate .VOB, .RM and .MOV files! Use Clone Files Checker and de-clutter the HDD/ SSD

Clone Files Checker is an automated duplicate file finder program for PCs, external devices, and cloud drives (OneDrive, Google Drive, and Dropbox). Small to medium-sized businesses that store a large number of files to images in their networks and cloud drives frequently find themselves in trouble as storage capacity is limited due to the existence of duplicate information. In such a case, duplicate file clearing will help them manage their files.

This program often captures certain files that are duplicated in fact but are named differently. Clone Files Checker uses the CRC32, MD5, and SHA1 (based on the user’s choice) functions to identify duplicate files.

The Clone Files Checker user interface shows 4 tabs to cater to the needs of users.

In this guide, we will focus on the following:

RM

RM stands for RealMedia file, a container file format. It comprises of audio, video, and multimedia files and connections for live Internet broadcasting facility.

VOB

DVD Video Object File (VOB) works with video objects that are mounted on DVDs. It includes a variety of details, like images, audio, subtitles and menu, and navigation information. DVD video film suppliers can use copyright security strategies to encrypt the contents of VOB files and avoid copying from one place to another.

MOV

MOV is a QuickTime Media file that is used as a container to contain video clips and videos. The details of the MOV format, created by Apple, are compressed with the MPEG-4 codec to decrease available storage space.

System Scan

This tab is selected by default when you launch the software. The features offered by this tab allow you to search and discover duplicates on your laptop/ computer hard drive. There are three other sub-tabs included, namely File Search, Music Search, and iTunes Search.

Read below to learn the steps to easily find duplicate files:

File Search

This feature is programmed to run an efficient scan for duplicate files of all kinds.

Step 1

Click the Add button under the Include to Scan tab and add as many folders/ drives as you like to check for duplicates.

The first filter allows you to check through All Files in a duplicate scan or target the scan towards certain file type(s) (e.g., Documents, Archives, Audio, Videos, Pictures, etc.). When you choose to configure the file types, select the Custom check box, and then apply as many options as you want. Since this article is about scanning for duplicate .VOB, .RM & .MOV duplicate files, the user will click Custom and then select Videos.

Step 2

It is an optional section that contains filters that can be used to customize the search criteria. The user can choose if they want to use both the filters or only one. The filters can be used to apply a lower file size limit, upper file size limit or even a file size range for the scan.

Step 3

The Preview option helps you display the thumbnail of a picture (and other files). It is a very beneficial feature that allows you to compare files. Once you have made all the selections, click Start Search to launch the scan.

Step 4

The duplicate scan will now look for duplicates in a thorough manner. You might have to remain patient with the scan, it all depends on the number of files involved.

Step 5

When the scan gets completed, Clone Files Checker will display a pop-up showing the summarized scan results including the number of duplicate files found and the storage they have been using.

Fix Wizard & Review & Fix

Fix Wizard allows the user to quickly breeze through the process. The user does not have to even look at the results, they simply select which file they want to retain (newest/ oldest) and what to do with the rest.

The Review & Fix option lists out the duplicates for you. You can now either use the Select Duplicates button to select the duplicate you want to retain from each duplicate group, or even use the checkboxes to manually select the duplicates. The final step is to click Select Action and choose between purging the duplicates or moving them to a folder.

Music Search

This feature is built for scanning music files and sniffing out any duplicates based on their metadata.

Step 1

Add the target folders to be included in the scan. If you want to leave any folders that are located inside the selected scan area, add them through the Exclude from Scan tab.

You might select one or more tags when searching for music duplicates. Selecting the File Content choice is strongly recommended unless you are absolutely sure about the accuracy of the tags in every single file you’re about to scan. Click the Start Search button once you’re ready to launch the scan.

Step 2

As the scan gets over, you will find all the duplicates populate the CFC user interface.

The Select Duplicates menu offers two additional choices in this mode, which essentially distinguish duplicate audio files by bit-rate. Choose an option of your liking, and finally use Select Action to delete the duplicates or move them to a folder of your choice.

Clone File Checker will be your savior when you finally decide to get rid of those duplicate .VOB, .RM and .MOV files.
