Once your Music library grows to a certain size, it becomes quite difficult to search for the right music. This is because a lot of us purchase music online and download it to different folders, sub-folders. We only accumulate new stuff but forget to organize it in an orderly manner. Our files are scattered across different partitions, folders, and sub-folders, and not to forget, CD/ DVDs, memory card, USB stick.
An unorganized music collection can not only make it a tough ask to smoothly play your favorite music in an orderly manner, but you also stand to accidentally delete your favorite music files. Worry not, we’ve come up with tips & tricks to sort music in the library efficiently.
Consolidate Your Music Library
Keep everything under 1 roof. Organize your music files at a single place to make it easy and fun to play your favorite music. Open up the Music folder and create a new subfolder with the name of an artist. Open Windows Search and search for that artist. Now move all the files belonging to that artist into the artist subfolder of the Music folder.
Batch-Edit Music Tags & Rename Files
Music Tags are meant to provide handy information about a music file. This information may include anything such as title, artist, genre, album, copyright information and ratings. However, most people who download music from unauthorized websites end up with music tags that are in a state of total disorder. As they download new music, they realize that their music tags are filled with irrelevant information, mostly promotional information. In some cases, the music tags are totally blank.
Edit Music Tags Individually
You can use the Properties dialog in Windows to edit the music tags. However, this isn’t as easy as it may look like. It is simply not possible to manually change the music tags of a gigantic music collection.
However, if the number of files isn’t a huge one, you can edit the tags as follows:
- Right-click a music file and select Properties.
- Click on the Details tab.
- Edit your music tags. Use the Tab button to jump over to the next text field.
- Click on Apply, and then OK.
Batch-Edit Tags, Fix Missing Music Tags & Rename Files
Easy File Renamer is a great tool to batch edit music tags and rename your music files at once. Download this smart utility to keep your music library contents in an orderly manner.
You can use different renaming criteria to add/ remove characters, numbers, change case (from Upper Case to lower case, and vice versa). Even better, it brings up a whole list of tag items that need to be fixed such as missing title, artist, album, year, genre, and cover art. Easy Bulk Renamer supports iTunes tags, ID3v1, ID3v2.3 and ID3v2.4.
