How to Delete and Recover iTunes Songs?

The process of deleting a song (or a file) is a piece of cake even for the most basic computer users.

However, it does have some technical tricks which need to be followed. If these steps are not followed up properly, you will not have to save up any space by the so called deletion of songs from your device.

  1. Open up iTunes Library.
  2. Find the song(s) you want to delete.
  3. The following steps will guide you how to select the songs:
    • In order to select a single song, you will only have to click on it once.
    • If you intend to delete multiple songs that are situated in quick succession, hold the Shift key as you click on the songs one by one.
    • In order to select multiple non-adjacent songs, press the Command/ Control key as you click on the songs one by one.
    • In order to select an entire album, simply click the icon right next to the title of the album.
    • In order to select the entire music of a single artist, simply click the icon right next to the artist’s name.
  4. Once the target items have been selected, follow these steps to delete them:
    • Simply press the Delete key.
    • Or, go to the Edit menu and select the Delete option.
    • Or right-click the song/ selection of songs/ album and select Delete.
    • Lastly, you can also select the Delete option from the icon menu.
  5. You will be provided with a popup asking you to delete the song(s).
    • Remove Download – Select this option if you have downloaded the song to your computer. Upon selecting this option, the file will be deleted from the hard drive. But iTunes will keep an entry of this song. This way, you will still be able to stream or download the song again whenever you wish.
    • Delete Song – Select this option if you want to remove the song from the iTunes Library as well as iCloud Music Library. Upon selecting this option, the file of the song will be deleted from the iTunes Library and the hard drive.
    • Keep File – Select this option if you only wish to remove the song from the iTunes Library. Upon selecting this option, the file will be removed from the Library but not from the hard drive.
    • Move to Trash – Select this option if you want to move the selected song to the trash, from where you can delete it later.
    • Cancel – Select this option if you do not want to delete the song.

 

Recovering iTunes Songs

  2. So if you see that there is a lot of Other media, backup your device. After backing up the data to your computer or the iCloud, erase all the data from your device.
  3. Once the entire data has been erased, all you need to do now is to restore the data from the backup. This way your device will be jolted to recognize the music.

 

Method # 3

Unfortunately enough, if you still haven’t succeeded in recovering your music, take a look at the following technical steps. Be advised that these steps are time-consuming.

  1. Connect your device to iTunes. Select your device and click on Summary. This option can be located in the left sidebar.
  2. Next, move on to the Options. Once you enter this section, you will have to select the Manually manage music and videos option.
  3. Once the above-mentioned steps have been carried out in the sequence, you will have to simply drag and drop the music to your phone. You can select whichever album you like and organize music according to your choice.
