Perform Operations at Desktop Level?

If you are still looking to perform operations at the desktop level, please follow our guide below.

Box is one of the more popular cloud storage services available at the moment. Many people use it as an alternative to Dropbox as well as several other services like Google Drive or OneDrive. Although cloud storage services are progressing and advancing at a breakneck speed, they do come with their own caveats.

Duplicates in a cloud drive is a real possibility. And it is an oft-occurring one! Fixing these duplicates is very important, or else you run the risk of running out of your Box storage quota very soon. The solution lies in syncing Box data to your computer and then allowing Clone Files Checker to kill the duplicates for good!

Unlike your PC, where transferring a duplicate file (with exactly the same name and to the same folder) gives you an error, cloud storage doesn’t warn you and simply proceeds ahead to create a copy of the original file at the same destination.

This issue can become a particularly painful one for those who have a lot of pictures or documents stored in their cloud storage. Manually deleting them is sure to be a very hectic and time taking exercise considering how you’d have to match the names of all the files, look for 1 (or multiple) copies of the parent file and then delete them.

Luckily, there is a very simple hack that can help you get rid of duplicates much faster than your usual preferred methods. In this method, you are going to download the Box application onto your PC and then proceed to delete the duplicates. Follow the steps below.

  1. Download and install Box Sync from here.
  2. Once the program has been installed, login using your credentials and wait for it to sync your files.
  3. Once the sync is complete, open Box Sync and you’ll be directed to a folder which contains your data on the cloud.
  4. Look for the search bar on the top right corner and type in the file extension of the duplicate file. For example: if you have duplicate Word documents, type in “.docx”. (without quotation marks.)
  5. Wait for the search to finish.
  6. Once the search finishes, all the word documents will appear.
  7. Now from the Box folder, click on the View tab in Ribbon interface.
  8. Click on Group by and choose Name from the dropdown menu.
  9. All the files will be arranged in alphabetical order.
  10. Simply delete the duplicates one by one.
  11. Lastly, sync the Box account so that the dupes can also be removed on the cloud.

That was all, folks. You have successfully ridden your cloud storage from duplicate files. In case of any issues, feel free to let us know.
