Windows 8 Metro Apps will Not Open

In this article we’ll discuss a problem linked with the metro applications in Windows 8. Whenever user tries to launch any metro app, it won’t open. To fix this problem keep computer clean from duplicate files, fix issues in Windows registry and perform the steps given below:

Create a New User Profile

It’s been reported that the existing user profile could be corrupt. The utmost important thing is to first copy all your documents, images, music and video files to a directory which is commonly shared within different users. In other words, the target directory should not be protected and it should be accessible to different user accounts in your system. If everything is working alright with the new user profile, there is no need to keep the old one. Simply delete it.

  • Make sure you’ve copied your documents, music, videos, images to a folder accessible to all the users. The original default folder location is: C:\Users\\
  • Press Windows Key + C.
  • The Charms Bar will open.
  • Click the Settings icon.
  • Click “Change PC settings” link.
  • PC Settings page will not open.
  • Click the Users tab.
  • Scroll down the right panel, and click “Add a user” under “Other users” category.
  • Add a User page will open.
  • Specify a different Windows Live email id that you would like to link with your machine and then click the Next button. If you do not have one, click “sign up for a new email address” link.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Enable the UAC

UAC stands for User Account Control. Windows 8 metro apps will not open if the UAC feature is disabled. Make sure this feature is not disabled.

  • Press the Windows Key + X.
  • Select Control Panel.
  • Click User Accounts and Family Safety | User Accounts.
  • Click the link named “Change use account control settings”.
  • Set the slider to its default value, i.e. Notify me only when apps try to make changes to my computer (default).
  • Click the OK button.
  • You’ll need to restart your computer for the changes to take effects.

Perform Startup Repair

Windows 8 metro apps don’t open due to incorrect system configurations. You may have to perform startup repair. Here are the steps to do so:

  • Insert the Windows 8 installation disc in your drive.
  • Press F2 or Delete key repeatedly. Set up the boot configurations in such a way that the DVD ROM will boot firstly and Hard Disk will boot secondly.
  • Save the settings and exit.
  • Your PC will restart automatically.
  • Press any key when prompted to do so.
  • Click “Repair your computer” link.
  • Click Advanced Options | Troubleshoot | Startup Repair.
  • Follow the on-screen wizard.

Clean Windows Store Cache

The Windows Store cache could be corrupt. Clear-up the cache contents as shown below:

  • Press Windows Key + X.
  • Click “Command Prompt (Admin)”.
  • Type the following command-WSReset.exe
  • Press the ENTER key of your keyboard.
  • Restart your computer when you’re done.
