Clone Files Checker crawls through the contents of the selected area of your Mac by making use of smart and purpose-built algorithms that go deep down into the architecture of each and every single file and come up with picture perfect results in a flash. The whole procedure is designed in such a manner that you will have to provide a minimal amount of input, with the results speaking for the hard work we’ve put in for a long time into this flagship project of ours.
We have made every effort to include as many questions as possible over here. We also have in place, plans to add up more questions to this repository that we deem will be beneficial to a large number of users. These questions can be extracted from (however not limited to) the queries we receive through the Support Form as well as our Customer Support email address, which is support@clonefileschecker.com. All kind of queries/ observations/ suggestions are (and will always be) welcome.
Clone Files Checker scans for any duplicate data on your Mac and then you get the choice of either deleting the duplicates or moving them up to a folder of your choice.
Yes, you can opt to add as many folders, drives or even external drives as you want in a single scan.
Absolutely. You can simply add up the scan target folders etc via the Include for Scan tab. The tab next to it, the Exclude from Scan tab, does exactly what it states. Any folder etc added over here gets totally excluded from the scan.
Yes, this is exactly what you optionally get to do once you’ve selected the locations to be scanned. You can select 1 (or more) custom file types to be focused on during the scan and you can specify a lower/ upper limit with regards to the file size that will be applied while scanning for duplicates. Our advanced level users can even setup both the lower as well as upper limits to make Clone Files Checker only look for files that fall within that file size range!
You will notice the scan results area is divided into various tabs, such as Documents, Music, Archives and so on. The default scan results show all file types detected during the scan. Select any particular tab to see results that only relate to that category. This helps you filter out results and focus only on a limited amount of file types for the moment.
This feature helps you view previews for any duplicate images that have been detected during the scan. Rather than open up each and every image, you can check its preview then and there within the results area.
There are 2 ways to this. Firstly, the File Path field shows the location of all duplicate files detected. However, if you want to navigate your way to the exact folder, you can simply right-click the concerning file and select Open File Location, and you will notice the concerned folder open up in the Finder and open up that file’s location.
Once the scan is over, you will see a summarized message stating the total number of duplicate files detected as well as the hard disk space they are occupying. Click Review & Fix to either manually select the files for the next course-of-action or use the Select Duplicates button to choose a uniform rule. Lastly, click Select Action and choose between permanently deleting the files and moving them to a folder.
These are those files which were the subject of the action you just opted for, i.e. Deletion or Moving the files.
Yes! You can easily make the changes for the duplicates to be moved to a folder of your liking. Simply press command + , to open up the Preferences window. Click Browse in front of the Folder to move duplicates field, navigate to the folder of your choice. Click Open | Save, and the changes will be applied instantly.
The files you select for deletion will be permanently deleted rather than being moved to Trash. So be very clear about which files you are selecting for deletion.
Clone Files Checker is designed to automatically create a folder at the designated location (if it isn’t there), as soon as you opt for the move duplicates scenario.
These are the different kinds of file types associated to a specific category. For instance, JPG, JPEG, PNG etc are all related to the Images category. Please exercise extreme caution while editing the contents of any of the fields in this section, or you run the risk of not getting accurate results in a scan.
Nope it doesn’t. The Advanced tab of the Preferences window shows all the areas which are exempt from all scans unless the user opts to include them in a scan, which is NOT RECOMMENDED!
That’s not at all a reason to worry. Simply click the Restore Defaults button in the Preferences window, followed by hitting Save. This will ensure any changes you had made are restored to their default values.
Yes, our smart minds have made this option a real possibility. Once the scan is over, simply click Export List and choose between exporting the scan results to a CSV or HTML file or viewing them directly in HTML format.
Yes you can try this software for free. However, the trial version only supports performing corrective action on 10 groups of files spread over a single scan/ multiple scans. If you want to go beyond that, you’ll have to join our Pro users by paying a premium.
All the duplicates detected during the scan are divided into groups by Clone Files Checker. This helps simplify matters as well as help you spot the number of duplicates for any particular file. Please note that the number of duplicate groups is determined by the unique files which relate to the detected duplicates, and not the total number of duplicates that have been detected.
