Duplicate PixTeller Images

There’s no in-house functionality in PixTeller to identify and prevent accumulation of duplicate image at the time you upload it. The problem of duplication isn’t limited to PixTeller alone. Users of other popular cloud storage platforms such as Google Drive, OneDrive, Box and Dropbox also notice a considerable drop in their storage space over a prolonged use. This is because each of these services allow users to synchronize data from multiple devices which increases the possibility of duplication of the files.

Using Cryptographic Technology To Find Duplicates

Cryptographic technology generates a fixed-sized byte of strings representing a document or a confidential text. This byte of strings is technically called as a Hash. The primary use of hashing is to securely encrypt and decrypt user’s confidential information such as passwords. This technology is also popularly used to find duplicate images on a large scale, especially when it is not possible to individually compare each file’s content.

There are different ways of file hashing. Some are faster than others while others offer higher accuracy but take relatively longer time. MD5, SHA1, SHA256 are some of the commonly used hashing algorithms.

A good duplicate files finding software should be able to compare thousands of files by their hash values and display results for the user to decide. When you scan a folder for duplicate files, files sharing identical hash values are considered to be duplicates and those with non-duplicate hashes are considered to be unique files.

Clone Files Checker is one of the most popular and safest duplicate finding utilities known today. It offers a beginner-friendly interface, tabbed control to let you filter files by their kind- documents, images, music, videos, archives, and so on. When you select a file, it displays image preview so that you don’t have to open each file just to view actual contents before deletion. You can view basic details about each file such as name, file modification date, size, type/ extension, open containing folder and the File Properties dialog.

The advantage of using CFC is that the powerful scan engine recognizes duplicates even if your duplicate data is stored in completely different file formats. If you need to save the data for future use simply export the search result into a Comma-Separated Values (CSV) file . It may take some time if you’ve dozens of GBs of data accumulated over a period of a few years.

In addition to PixTeller, Clone Files Checker supports cleaning duplicate files straight from your cloud storage accounts using Official APIs. This saves you from the pain and hassle of downloading files which might consume additional bandwidth and waste precious time. Use of official APIs is the only privacy-oriented approach where no information is accessed by CFC developers and other third-parties.

CFC has an iTunes playlist integration feature that help you find duplicate music files by their tags such as album, artist, bit rate, and so on. While using this approach, be advised not to blindly delete duplicates as some of the music files that you’ve purchased online may have misplaced music tags, which could increase the likelihood of false positives.
