Mark and Unmark Folders for Duplicate Files Removal

Have you ever faced a situation when you came across a couple of (or more) folders unknown to you? You decide to browse them to check if they contain any valuable stuff inside, only to be left more confused as both of them seem to be containing quite a lot of duplicate files.

However, you can’t just simply go on to delete one folder and retain the other as some of the data is unique (spread across both folders). And heck, the data is important enough to be gotten rid of. So now you are left with the option of either taking the manual way or going for an automated solution to remove duplicate files.

Surely enough, the manual method might work where the number of files is not significant, but you’d definitely not want to be in a situation where you’re comparing every single file with all the others in a folder that contains around 1000 files.

I’m sure you’ve guessed by now we’re talking about Clone Files Checker. Let’s break it all in a step-by-step manner.

  1. Download the setup file, and execute it to install Clone Files Checker.
  2. Click the green colored Add button, and select the folder which you want to scan. Repeat this step, and add the second folder that needs to be scanned.
  3. Click Start Search and wait for the scan to successfully conclude.
  4. Once the scan is over, you will see a summary laying out the duplicates detected as well as the disk space lost. Select Review & Fix.
    Note:
This example assumes you are scanning 2 folders, namely Folder A and Folder B, and you want to remove all duplicates present in Folder A.
  5. Click Select Duplicates and then click Select by File Locations.
  6. Click Add | Browse and then choose Folder A and click OK.
  7. Now select the checkbox for Include subfolders and click Add.
  8. Since you want to get rid of all duplicates in Folder A, you will select Folder A and click Mark. Note the following screenshot, it has all the data from Folder A selected (see the red rectangles in the second screenshot).

  9. The last step simply involves clicking the Select Action button and choosing between Permanent Delete and Move to Folder.
