Un-Sync Your iPhone or Android with OneDrive – Stop Auto-Upload of Photos to the Cloud Storage

Important Announcement

On March 1 2019, our company, Sorcim Technologies, has made available the Cloud Duplicate Finder web-service which dedupes cloud drives such as the OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive and Box. Use it risk-free to free up storage space in minutes. It’s fast, easy and works completely online!

OneDrive app for Android and iPhone configures your smartphone to automatically upload images on Microsoft OneDrive’s server. The initial setup turns on auto-uploading of images whenever you’re connected over a Wi-Fi connection. There is, however, an option to enable this feature for metered connections too though it is disabled to prevent additional Internet charges.

The app also offers other settings to disable video uploads or upload in the background, which we’ll talk about later in this article. It is worthwhile mentioning that all images are uploaded in their original format and resolution, hence they occupy the same size on server.

For Android Smartphones

Disabling Auto-Upload

  1. Open the OneDrive app on your smartphone.
  2. Go to Settings > Options > Camera Backup.

As a default, metered connections will not be used for online backup. However, you can change the setting from the Camera Upload page. Enable the Use Mobile Network feature to do so.

Activating Background Upload

Microsoft OneDrive app offers great flexibility to the users. Turn on background upload so that you can use your iPhone during the upload process. To do so, go to the Camera Upload page and tap Upload in Background link and lastly activate it.
